I'm posting this for REO and others who are considering options to make their game run with higher FPS.

Of you have already selected lower settings in advanced video options and still want better results then try this.

This is what I did when I played with a slower CPU, video card, and lesser connection than I have now.

As important as a video card is you will not exceed what your cpu is capable of. I had only upgraded my CPU when I stopped using these settings. I had a $200 card in a 3100 Sempron pc - then put it in a 3500+ Athlon 64 pc. A lot of people do not realize how dependent this game is on the CPU, There are a lot of calculations/number crunching that goes on in this game. Your CPU has to take in new info given it by the server - process it AND process what you are doing with your keyboard while playing. The video card only renders the image - the CPU handles the whole game.

For those with good a CPU and video card I would say that allocating 512 MBs of memory will still help you. Default memory allocation is 256 MBs. And no - I don't think allocating more than 512 will make any real difference.

While 71 ( game will read as 7.1) is what I did long ago I would suggest 80 as the lowest effort to try nowdays. You may find that even at that setting you will not be able to join a server that has sv_pure enabled.

I found that water reflections stop at 80 - which gives you an upperhand at shooting people below water since you can see them easily.

If you are running at 10 dxlevel then try 90 first. Then try 80.

But we all should allocate 512 MBs of memory to the game - it will help your CPU some. Formula for determining the numbers to put in for memory size - (MBs wanted) x 1024

512 = 524288

So put in... -heapsize 524288

The dash before heapsize is needed, don't forget that.

The "-console" setting was from when I was playing Half Life DM and was the only way to have the console available at the time - You can disregard that part since console is easily accessed now in the options panel.

Unfortunately a slow connection can't be overcome much by this.

Hope this helps.

Cool
